A native of Inkerman Ferry, New Brunswick, Marc-
André Haché developed a passion for the French
language and la Francophonie in high school.
Before admission to the accelerated translation
program at the Université de Moncton, he had
registered in French studies. “This program included
courses in sociolinguistics that exposed me to issues
facing the French language – to its charm and vitality
and to the struggles and challenges faced by the
French-speaking people. I discovered the cultural
diversity which exists in this province, for example,
between the North and the South and within the
Francophonie worldwide,” explained the 25 year old.
In 2010, before obtaining his bachelor’s degree with
a major in French and a minor in history from the
Université de Moncton, Marc-André completed a
Lettres, Cinéma et Histoire session at the Université
de Poitiers in France. In 2011, he did an internship at
the École Supérieure de Commerce d’Amiens also in
France. There, he worked in the Office of International
Relations, performing a variety of administrative
tasks, including organizing activities for international
students. And, in 2011, with a bursary from the
Société Nationale de l’Acadie, he participated in
a French language and literature program at the
Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium.
“My international experiences have, without any
doubt, enriched my education and contributed to
my personal development. With the globalization of
communications and the work place, we can no longer
function in isolation,” said Marc-André. “We must
be open to others. That is one of the great values
of learning mobility.”
In this spirit, Marc-André has registered in the
International Passport Program introduced by the
Université de Moncton’s International Mobility Service.
This program’s objective is to enrich the curriculum
by providing students with an opportunity to acquire
intercultural and international knowledge, skills and
abilities in order to enhance their ability to communicate
with people of other cultures, increase their sensitivity
to these cultures and enhance their employability.
Relentless, Marc-André has been involved in student
councils throughout his university studies, both in the
French studies and the translation programs. He was
also a volunteer during the 2009
Congrès mondial
acadien and the Festival du Cinéma Francophone
en Acadie
from 2008 to 2011.
Although he will be graduating from the accelerated
translation program in 2013, he wants to continue
his involvement in cultural affairs while launching
his career as a translator. And, he sees his chosen
profession as yet another means of building bridges
amongst cultures.
