50 years of university-level education.
The year 2010 marked the 50
th
anniversary of university-level education
in Shippagan. Throughout the year, the Shippagan Campus featured
various activities to mark the occasion.
U de M Développement Inc. founded
The first meeting of U de M Développement Inc.’s board of directors
was held on November 16, 2010. Members were enthusiastic toward
efforts to establish a research and development campus allowing the
university to participate fully in the economic development of
Greater Moncton and its surrounding area.The corporation’s goal is
to establish partnerships with a diverse array of businesses in order to
maximize research and technology resources.
Forestry faculty celebrates 25 years
To mark its 25
th
anniversary, the forestry faculty hosted numerous
activities on the Edmundston Campus, including an alumni reunion
and field day at its experimental forest.The faculty also welcomed
about 150 researchers, students and forestry professionals to the 5
th
Eastern Canada and USA (ECANUSA) Forest Science Conference held
Donald J. Savoie honoured
Donald J. Savoie, holder of the Canada Research Chair in Public Administration and Governance, was honoured during an
event that reflected on new trends and the future of public administration organized by the Institute of Public Administration of
Canada (Moncton Regional Group) and the Université de Moncton’s public administration department. A former director of the
Canadian Institute for Research on Regional Development, and holder of the Clément Cormier Chair in Economic Development,
he has had a profound influence on numerous government policies and initiatives while offering credible and thoughtful critiques
on the management and function of governments.
October 14-16, 2010. Conference attendees hailed primarily from New
Brunswick, Quebec and Maine, however many attended from Ontario,
Nova Scotia, NewYork andVermont, as well.
Neil Michaud bursary fund benefit roast
More than 400 people gathered for an evening of humour on
April 30, 2011, to celebrate the annual Chœur Neil-Michaud benefit roast
at Moncton’s Delta Beauséjour. The “victim” of the choir’s roast this year
was Yvon Fontaine, president and vice-chancellor. The fundraising event
was organized as part of the 20
th
anniversary of the Fonds de bourses
Neil-Michaud, a bursary fund that supports music students
at the Université de Moncton.
French-as-a-second-language courses
More than 400 Horizon Health Network staff members chose to register
for French-as-a-second-language courses offered by the
Centre international d’apprentissage du français
located on the Shippagan
Campus. These courses are offered at hospitals in Fredericton, Miramichi,
Saint John, Moncton and Sussex, among others.
