Jocelyne Roy Vienneau appointed New Brunswick’s
Lieutenant Governor
Jocelyne Roy Vienneau was installed as Lieutenant Governor of New
Brunswick in October 2014.
Ms. Vienneau was vice-president of the Shippagan campus for nine years,
from 2005 to 2014. In that capacity, she made a substantial contribution
to the development of research and education.
Alain Simard joins the ranks of the Royal Society of Canada
An associate professor both at the Université de Moncton’s chemistry
and biochemistry department and at the Centre de formation médicale du
Nouveau-Brunswick, Alain Simard is part of the inaugural cohort of The
College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists established by the Royal
Society of Canada (RSC).
Donald J. Savoie receives 2015 Killam Prize in social
sciences
Holder of the Canada Research Chair (Level 1) on public administration
and governance, Donald J. Savoie’s research achievements are prodigious
and his influence on Canadian public policy and Canadian society has
been evident for years.
Often considered Canada’s Nobel Prize, the Killam Prize is one of the
country’s most prestigious awards for academic-career achievement.
Dr. Savoie is the first Atlantic Canadian to receive the Killam Prize in
social sciences. Valued at $100,000, this prize is generally awarded to
researchers from Canada’s larger universities.
Ovation night
Dr. Aurel Schofield received the Order of Merit of Université de Moncton
Alumni. He is the founder and former director and associate dean of
the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick and former
associate dean of the Université de Sherbrooke Faculty of medicine and
health sciences.

Carl Philippe Gionet, pianist, extremely talented musician and founder and
artistic director of the event Musique sur mer en Acadie, received the 2014
Emergence Award.
Edmundston campus contributes to success of 2014 World
Acadian Congress
The 2014 World Acadian Congress, held in the region of Acadia of the
lands and forests, was a major success to which the Edmundston campus
proudly contributed in many ways. During the event, President Raymond
Théberge also hosted a meeting attended by Francophonie university
representatives.
Major events held at Moncton campus
Since June 2014, many events were held at the Ceps and the Stade
Moncton 2010 Stadium, including the Canadian Track and Field
Championships; the Canadian Transplant Games; the Athletics NB
competitions and the FIFA U-20 World Cup. These events presented a
unique opportunity to promote the university at the regional, national and
international levels.
2015 income tax project
Students from the Université de Moncton’s three campuses participated
in the 2015 income tax project that assists low-income earners in
the community. Combining learning and work experience, this is an
opportunity for students to participate in an experience similar to that of
the co-op programs.
Discussion on privacy and cyberbullying at the Shippagan
campus
A round-table discussion on privacy and cyberbullying was organized
at the Shippagan campus. It was attended by stakeholders from the
university, the media, the legal and school systems as well as the
corporate world.
