Renewal of MOU
The Université de Moncton has renewed its memorandum of
understanding with the New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network.
The network, that links the four public universities in New Brunswick,
supports various activities promoting the adoption of evidence-based
public policies.
Funding of $500,000 received
Dr. Sandra Turcotte, Canadian Cancer Society Research Chair, Université
de Moncton biochemistry professor and research scientist at the Atlantic
Cancer Research Institute (ACRI), has been awarded an operating grant
by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). With this funding,
valued at close to $500,000 over the next five years, she will be able
to continue her research aimed at developing new strategies for the
treatment of kidney cancer.
Research grants awarded
Five Université de Moncton researchers received funding totalling close
to $700,000 over five years under the Natural Sciences and Engineering
Research Council (NSERC) Discovery Grants Program. In addition, the
university will receive $98,000 for student scholarships.
Research funded by the Movember Foundation
Dr. Jalila Jbilou (Psychology – Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-
Brunswick) is leading a team of researchers who were awarded a
$3-million research grant from the Movember Foundation (plus $450,000
from the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation) to conduct
research on the mental health of men with heart disease.
New forestry research chair
The New Brunswick Innovation Foundation announced the creation
of four new research chairs. News that the Research Chair in Precision
Forestry was awarded to the Northern Hardwoods Research Institute
(NHRI) was applauded by the province’s forestry industry.

Interdisciplinary Health Research Day
The seventh edition of the Interdisciplinary Health Research Day (IHRD)
organized by Université de Moncton’s Faculty of health sciences and
community services was held in March at the Moncton campus.
The event brings together professors, researchers, clinicians and students
as well as all those who are interested in health-related research.
Research Day at the Shippagan campus
The fifth Research Day, organized by the Shippagan campus research
council, was an opportunity for researchers to promote the various
research projects that are being conducted, to exchange information with
colleagues and to share knowledge on their field of research.
Young Researchers Symposium
The 26
th
Young Researchers Symposium was held at the Moncton campus
in March 2015.
Both graduate and undergraduate students presented the results of their
research through lectures and posters.
