General

 

Do you offer French courses for all levels?

We offer French courses for all linguistic levels. A placement test allows us to determine your level and to assign you to the appropriate group.

 

Is the city of Moncton safe?

Moncton, New Brunswick is one of the safest cities in Canada.

 

Is the Université de Moncton located near stores, boutiques and supermarkets?

The university and residences are located within about a 20 minute walk to a shopping mall, pharmacies.

 

Travel

 

Are travel fees included in the cost of the program?

Round-trip travel expenses from your place of residence to the Université de Moncton are your responsibility.

 

Admission and Registration Day

 

How will I know if I have been accepted into the French as a second language program at U de M?

You will receive a reply from the Université de Moncton regarding your acceptance into the program.

 

What should I expect on registration day?

The program begins on, July 25, 2022, with registration between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm at the Lefebvre building. You must bring your completed and signed registration forms to complete your file. Participants will obtain their key and laundry card and will then have the opportunity to visit the residences and settle-in. A student gathering will take place for supper followed by various activities later in the evening, giving students an opportunity to get acquainted with each other.

 

Are there any special study materials I should acquire before my arrival?

A French-English dictionary is required and a verb conjugation book is optional. You can always purchase these study materials at the Université de Moncton bookstore.

 

Accommodation

 

Where will I be living during my stay at U de M?

All students in our language programs stay in one of the residences on campus.

 

Can I request to share a room with another student?

Students will stay at the Lefebvre Residence. This facility is equipped with three bedroom studio units. There is one shared washroom per unit. Residence rooms are assigned by the program coordinator, as per program regulations, request to share a room with a specific student cannot be granted.

 

Are there laundry facilities in the residence?

Residences are equipped with washers and dryers and may be used at a cost of $1.75 for washers and $1.75 for dryers. You will receive a reloadable smart card to use the machines as they do not accept cash. 

 

Is there a high-speed wireless internet connection in the room?

All rooms are equipped with a high-speed wireless internet connection (WI-FI).

 

Is there a telephone in the room?

There are no direct line telephones in the residence rooms. If you are a parent wishing to contact your child, please use the telephone numbers provided in the information package before the program start date and make sure to request the updated contact information made available on registration day. You can also contact housing services at (506) 858-4015.

 

Are Interac machines available?

There are two ATMs on campus (National Bank and UNI). They are located at the Student Center. 

 

Meals

 

Where will I be eating my meals?

Meals are served at the Bistro 63, the campus cafeteria. There will be a wide selection of healthy and balanced choices available to you every day.

 

Should I inform you of any allergies or dietary restrictions?

Yes, you must inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions before the program starts. The information must be entered in Student Data Web form when you complete your registration.

 

Personal Belongings

Should I bring a laptop computer?

Feel free to bring a laptop computer with you. WI-FI service (wireless access) is available free of charge everywhere on campus. However, please take note of the following:

 1 – “The Université de Moncton is not responsible for damage caused to the personal property of its tenants. Accordingly, it is strongly recommended that students acquire insurance coverage for their personal belongings.”

 2 – “The Université de Moncton is not responsible for lost or stolen personal belongings. Your door must be kept locked at all times. It is strongly recommended that students acquire insurance coverage for their personal belongings.”

May I bring my cell phone?

Cell phones are allowed on campus. However, cell phones may not be used during courses, workshops or organized activities.

Can I buy personal items if I forget something?

Students may purchase personal items at the shopping mall or, by asking a monitor to accompany him/her to a nearby store.

 

Visits, Days Off and Departure

Since Sunday is a day off, will I be unsupervised?

If you stay on campus, you will remain under the supervision of a monitor. Parents must sign an authorization form in order for the student to leave campus without supervision.

 

Can my parents visit me/can I leave campus during my stay at the Université?

It will be very difficult to organize visits with students during the week because of planned evening activities. Saturday will also be a full day of activities. Although we encourage that students stay within the immersion program for the full four weeks, Sunday is the best day for a visit or, for going off-campus with the approval of a monitor,or the Assistant program Coordinator.  The monitors must be informed at all times of each students' whereabouts.

If parents must request to pick up their child for an exceptional reason during the one month period, a special permission is required ahead of time by the  Program Coordinator during the program.

 

When should I plan my arrival and departure?

Participants are expected to arrive on campus on registration day (July 25, 2022), between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, and to leave the campus on the day the program ends (August 5, 2022).
