Entrance Scholarships – Academic Merit

Admissibilité

Academic Merit Entrance Scholarships are offered to students who are enrolling in an undergraduate program for the first time at one of the Université de Moncton’s three campuses.

With an average of 80% in Grade 11*, the student automatically receives a $4,000 to $5,000 entrance scholarship, or $1,000 per year, renewable for the duration of their bachelor's degree. With an even higher average, these scholarships can reach $12,000 to $15,000.

For students who have attended university or college, marks from the last two years will be considered for the calculation of the average.

To be eligible, students must be graduates of a Canadian high school. Non-Canadian students are not eligible for Academic Merit Entrance Scholarships.

Note: Academic Merit Entrance Scholarships cannot be combined with local Academic Merit Scholarships.

Selection criteria is based on above-average academic results (GPA of 80% or higher).

*If an application for admission is made before December 16, the scholarship offer will be calculated based on Grade 11 marks only. This offer will be honoured regardless of marks earned in the first semester of Grade 12.

Recalculation: A recalculation of the scholarship average will be made at the end of February taking into account the marks from Grade 11 and the first semester of Grade 12. In the event of an increase in the average after the first semester of Grade 12, the applicant will be eligible for an increase in the scholarship.

If application is made after December 15, but before high school graduation, the calculation will be made with marks from Grade 11 and the first semester of Grade 12.

If the application for admission is made after graduation, the calculation will be made with marks from all courses taken in Grades 11 and 12.

In all cases, an academic transcript must accompany the admission application. The student must also make sure to send us the transcript with the marks for Grade 11 and the first semester of Grade 12.

For students who have completed university or college, marks from the last two years will be considered for the calculation of the average.

For the Atlantic provinces, an Academic Merit Entrance Scholarship offer is made at the same time as the admission offer. For the others, the scholarship offer will follow shortly after the admission offer.

Avis aux étudiantes et étudiants en mobilité

Students attending one of the Université de Moncton campuses as part of a student mobility program are not eligible for the Université de Moncton's scholarships and financial assistance program.

Lieu de validité

Academic Merit Entrance Scholarships are awarded for studies at one of the Université de Moncton three campuses. The student must be registered for a minimum of 11 credits per term.

Versements

Academic Merit Entrance Scholarships are awarded in two equal instalments during the academic year. The amount of the academic merit scholarship will first be applied against the fees owed to the Université.

Renouvellement

Renewal of the scholarship is granted only if the recipient remains enrolled in a minimum of 11 credits per term. To qualify for renewal, recipients must have achieved a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.80 after each year of study (September to April).

For the first year only, recipients who achieve a GPA between 3.70 and 3.79 will have the opportunity to receive a renewal at 50% of the value of the award.

A recipient who loses their qualification for a given year due to their academic average, cannot qualify for subsequent years.

This scholarship is renewable for the duration of a normal four-year (4) program of study, except for five-year (5) programs.

For all renewal requests following a departure from the Université, the final decision to grant or not the renewal is left to the discretion of the Selection Committee as long as the return to the Université is within the normal duration of the program (4 or 5 years) from the year of the award. This same committee will consider renewal requests from recipients who wish to change programs. In all circumstances, this scholarship applies only to the undergraduate level.

Annulation

The Academic Merit Entrance Scholarship is terminated if the recipient decides to leave the Université.
