Small Catchment Hydrology

GENERAL

Over the years, a good understanding of river hydrology was obtained for large rivers.  However, small basins (less than 100 km2) are also of interest to many utilities (e.g., Hydro-Quebec) although data are often not available at this small scale.  Therefore, the objective of this research is to study rainfall-runoff characteristics of small basins to better predict peak flows, based on characteristics such as duration and intensity rainfall as well as antecedent basin conditions.  The study will focus on developing semi-empirical methods and relationships for the estimation of peak flows, flood volume, etc.
