Michael Cantwell named Director of Philanthropic Development and Director of the Évolution fundraising campaign

The Office of University Relations and Philanthropic Development has named Michael Cantwell as Director of Philanthropic Development and Director of the Évolution fundraising campaign

Mr. Cantwell will play a frontline strategic role in the development, implementation, coordination and management of the functions of the philanthropic development department in order to achieve the goals of the university’s various fundraising initiatives, including the Évolution campaign which aims to raise $50 million. Mr. Cantwell will also be responsible for the development of efficient donation solicitation strategies, as well as donor recognition and loyalty efforts for all fundraising campaigns. He will also be a member of the Université de Moncton’s management team where he will interact with the president, members of the university community, as well as the co-chairs and cabinet members of the Évolution campaign, among others.

Mr. Cantwell holds a master’s degree in education from the University of British Columbia, a diploma of higher education in college education from Université Laval and a bachelor of psychology from the Université de Moncton.

“I am thrilled that someone of Michael Cantwell’s calibre has joined our team during this important phase of our Évolution campaign,” said Linda Schofield, Executive Director of University Relations, Philanthropic Development and the Évolution campaign. “His significant experience and expertise in the area of philanthropy in the Canadian university environment are major assets. As well, the fact that he is a proud graduate of the Université de Moncton means that he is well suited to better present the institution’s priorities to the donors who want to support them.”

Mr. Cantwell has held the positions of executive director of advancement at Mount Allison University; director of development with McGill University’s faculties of law and arts; international projects officer with the Government of New Brunswick’s NBCC/CCNB network; as well as chief of staff for Edmond P. Blanchard, former New Brunswick justice minister and intergovernmental affairs minister. He has also led several fundraising campaigns and initiatives.

He began his new position in July 2017.
