Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues volleyball coach Joline Richard is pleased that Myriam Gauthier, 17, from Beresford and Haylie Gauthier, 18, from Nova Scotia have signed their U SPORTS letter of agreement to line up with her Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball team for the 2023-2024 season.

Standing 6 feet tall, centre Myriam Gauthier plays with Club de volleyball Dynamite U18 and Club volleyball Chaleur U18. She was also a member of the VNB U17 elite team and the senior Rebelles AAA of école secondaire Nepisiguit.

“Volleyball has been a big part of my life for the past 6 years,” said Myriam Gauthier. “I always dreamed of playing at the university level and playing with the Aigles Bleues since it is the francophone university of my choice and my province. The team is young and dynamic, and I know that the coaches will allow me to develop as a player.”

Gauthier hopes to contribute to the success of the team by continuing to learn from her teammates and coaches. “I will commit 100% to the team by devoting all my energy to training and continuously encouraging my teammates. My strengths are my size at the net and my attacks. I aim to make a better reading of the game, to increase my movement speed for blocks and continue to develop my defense.” She will pursue a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.

Haylie Gauthier is a libero from Nova Scotia who will pursue studies in biochemistry. She is 5 feet 4 inches tall and is originally from Gatineau, Quebec. She plays with the Sonic U18. “I love the atmosphere of the team and the Moncton area,” she said. “Living in a small community where everyone likes to gather is something that attracted me. The coaches and their attitude also played a big role in my choice of the Aigles Bleues. The sports community is like a second family, and I can't wait to join it.”

Haylie Gauthier would like to see her future team rank at least top 3 in the league and win the AUS banner. She has been playing in this sport for 6 years and her strengths are in defense and communication.  “I want to improve my physical skills to bring my game to the next level. I would like to improve my agility to react faster. Basically, I want to keep pushing myself mentally and physically and always be at my best. I also want to make connections with other players and create new friendships.”

“We are very pleased to welcome these two players to our team,” said coach Joline Richard. “They are determined and go-getters. They will strengthen our defensive and offensive game.”
