Sylvie Morin is the Next Dean of Studies at the Edmundston Campus

The Board of Governors of the Université de Moncton has announced the appointment of Sylvie Morin as Dean of Studies at the Edmundston campus of the Université de Moncton.

“I am delighted with Ms. Morin's appointment as Dean of Studies at the Edmundston campus. I am looking forward to working with her and I am convinced that her experience will contribute greatly to the advancement of current projects,” said Gilles Roy, Vice-President, Academics and Research.

Sylvie Morin, PhD (UQTR, 2015) has been an associate professor of psychology at the Université de Moncton, Edmundston campus since 2009 and head of the Humanities Department since 2021. Her research interests include sexual consent, sexual violence, resilience, women's health, and the child's journey in a vulnerable context. A member of the Groupe de recherche interdisciplinaire sur la santé mentale des enfants et des jeunes (GRISMEJ), she is also part of the research team that conducted the survey on safety, sexuality and interactions in the university environment to assess the issue of sexual violence at the Université de Moncton.

Involved at various levels within the university, Professor Morin has contributed to the development and revision of the sexual violence policy and to the development of the Diploma in Community Organization and Advocacy (DCOA), in addition to serving on the university's 2023-2028 Strategic Planning Strategy Committee. Furthermore, her support and interest in student initiatives earned her the Staff Member Dedicated to Student Life 2021-2022 award. Her contribution to the experiential learning portfolio was also recognized with the Université de Moncton Faculty Excellence Award at the 2019 FutureReadyNB Gala.

Strongly committed to her community, she currently chairs the Community Connections Committee of the Northwest Regional Service Commission, the Family and Early Childhood Northwest Committee, and the Escale MadaVic Foundation, as serves as a member of the Advisory Committee of l'Éclipse (a resource centre for victims of sexual violence in northwestern New Brunswick). As president of the Regroupement féministe du Nouveau-Brunswick from 2012 to 2016, she has worked closely with Escale MadaVic for almost 10 years in the development of numerous projects and funding requests.

Professor Morin will take office on July 1, 2023, for a regular five-year term.
