A Statement from the President and Vice-Chancellor Regarding the Name of the Université de Moncton
This week, we received a petition from a citizens committee inviting us to initiate a process to change the name of our institution. Let us reaffirm from the outset, and in an unequivocal manner, that our institution is Acadian, Francophone and proud of its uniqueness.
Today, our institution replied to the initiators of the petition that their request will be studied within our governing bodies, namely during the next meeting of the Board of Governors of the university next April.
In keeping with our new Strategy 2023-2028: Setting Course for the Future, and in keeping with our vision, mission and values, our institution is responsive to its community and committed to societal transformation. The analysis of this proposal is in keeping with the directions we have established.
Considering that the name of the university reflects its identity, our objective remains to make the best decisions for the present and future interest of the institution and to do so in a rigorous and orderly manner.
We will leave it to our governing bodies to investigate the matter before commenting further publicly.
