The Université de Moncton Benefits from the Research Support Fund

The Université de Moncton will receive a grant of $993,476 through the Research Support Fund (RSF) for the 2022-2023 academic year.

On November 16, 2022, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, federal Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced more than $369 million in funding to help Canadian post-secondary institutions enrich and advance their research environment through the RSF.

Awarded annually by the Government of Canada to eligible institutions, the RSF enables the Université de Moncton to maintain a competitive and world-class research environment year after year.

The annual RSF grant assists the Université de Moncton in meeting a portion of the central administrative costs associated with federally funded research. The value of the annual grant is based on the funding provided to researchers by the three federal granting agencies, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, over the previous three fiscal years.

A range of costs can be covered by the RSF, including salaries for staff who provide administrative support from the Université de Moncton to researchers and their projects, occupational health and safety training, maintenance of laboratories and research facilities, purchase of resources for our libraries, compliance with regulatory and ethical standards, and knowledge transfer activities.

The RSF allows the Université de Moncton to invest its grant funds in five categories: research facilities, research resources, management and administration of research activities, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards, and intellectual property and knowledge mobilization.

For the 2022-2023 academic year, funds will be used for maintenance and operation of research facilities, subscription to library periodicals and databases, support for securing research funds and the administration of grants, operation of ethics approval committees, technical support for animal care, health and safety in research spaces, and support for innovation and the realization of research results. Details regarding the use of the 2021-2022 RSF grant are available on the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research website.

The RSF was established in 2003 as part of the federal government's strategy to make Canada one of the best countries in the world for research and development. It is designed to help post-secondary institutions and their affiliated hospitals and research institutes meet the costs of managing research funded by the three federal granting agencies.
