Two AUS soccer games each for the Aigles

The Université de Moncton soccer teams will each play two games this weekend in the Atlantic University Sport regular season action.

The Aigles Bleues (0-6-0 = 0pts, 10th position) and Aigles Bleus (1-2-3=6pts, 7th position) will face the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (0-4-2=2pts, 8th position – women; 0-4-2=2pts, 8th position – men) on Friday at 5 p.m. (women) and 7:15 p.m. (men) in Charlottetown, a first clash between these clubs this season. On Sunday at Stade Croix Bleue Medavie Stadium on the Moncton campus, the Dalhousie University Tigers (5-0-2-17pts, 2nd place - women / 3-1-3=12pts, 5th place - men) will be the visitors at 1 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. for the return games.

“We are aiming for our first point in the standings,” said head coach Mehyar Zekaroui of the Aigles Bleues. “We want to turn the page on the last weekend which was not profitable for us. We tried a new system that did not work. We hope to succeed against the Panthers who are about the same caliber as us. Sunday will be a special game; the Tigers are defensively solid having allowed only one goal in 7 games this season and it will be different. We need to be at our best. We will push our limit in Sunday's game.”

The men's squad is in 7th position and still hopes to qualify for the AUS championship by finishing in the top six. Time is running out, however, and it's critical to earn points with 6 games to play on the regular schedule. “We have to find a way to win games,” said coach Younes Bouida. “It won't be easy against two well-esteemed teams. You must get the maximum number of points. The situation will become critical if we do not win. The guys will do everything to win. The team with the most will and who will be the most focused will win. Both teams are within our reach.”

Moncton is 5 points behind Memorial University Sea-Hawks in 6th place with one game in hand.
