Board of Governors Highlights

At its annual meeting on October 12, the Board of Governors appointed a new Chair and a new Vice-Chair.

Denis Mallet was elected Chair of the Board of Governors for a three-year term. Mr. Mallet is a resident of Shippagan and well known in the business community. He is an alumnus of the Université de Moncton, having served as a professor of accounting and finance as well as Director of Administrative Services at the Shippagan campus early in his career. He then served as Controller and Director of Operations for Eastern Canada with the peat moss company FPM/SunGro Horticulture Canada Ltd. for over 30 years. He sits on several committees, was the recipient of the Gilbert-Finn Award in 2011-2012, and is currently the General Manager of the Pokemouche Golf Club.  

Denise Frenette is the new Vice-Chair and an alumna of the Université de Moncton. Ms. Frenette is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Chartered Accountant. Now semi-retired, she currently works for the Atlantic Fisheries Fund at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. A senior public servant for more than 15 years, she also held the position of Vice-President of Finance and Corporate Services at the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

“I am very pleased to have Mr. Mallet and Ms. Frenette at the helm of the University's Board of Governors, two individuals with impressive backgrounds. I am convinced that their experience and knowledge will be important assets in helping us move forward with important projects,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Denis Prud'homme. “I would also like to thank Mrs. Edith Doucet for her exceptional work over the past six years as Chair of the Board of Governors, as well as Mr. Marc-Antoine Chiasson, who served as Vice-Chair and Chair of the Governance Committee.”

At its extraordinary meeting, the members voted in favour of the following new appointments: Daniel Goguen as a member residing in New Brunswick, but outside the Northwest, Northeast, and Southeast regions, and Sébastien Dupuis as a member residing in the Southeast region. Mr. Goguen works in the investment field at Vestcor while Mr. Dupuis is President and CEO of Assumption Life.

In addition, the name of the Moncton Campus Student Centre will now be known as Mawiomi Student Centre, which means a gathering place.

Finally, the Board also approved the 2022 financial statements.
