Élodie St-Jacques and Étienne Montpetit are the UMoncton Athletes of the Week
Hockey players Élodie St-Jacques, from Saint-Jérôme, and Étienne Montpetit, from Valleyfield, Quebec, are the IRM Moncton MRI athletes of the week from October 3 to 9, 2022 as chosen by the Athletic Department of the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton.
Forward Élodie St-Jacques contributed an assist and 7 shots on goal with 4 scoring opportunities in the Aigles Bleues 2022-2023 season inaugural games last week in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey. She won 70 percent of her individual battles. Her remarkable play on the ice earned her a spot on the special teams during the games, which is quite a feat for a rookie. She is a first-year student in the Bachelor of Business Administration program.
In his fourth season with the Aigles Bleus in men's hockey, goaltender Étienne Montpetit won both of his early season games against two high-scoring teams. He faced 47 (12-19-16) shots (45 saves) on goal on Wednesday's 4-2 win over the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers. There were 5 scoreless power plays. Saturday night was another busy night with 40 (13-13-14) shots (39 saves) in the 4-1 win over the UNB Reds. Many of those shots required a split-second reaction to prevent the puck from entering the net. There were four significant power plays. He was chosen as the first star and Subway player of the game in both games. He is a fifth-year Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) student.
