The Université de Moncton is proud to announce that two research projects have each received funding of nearly $260,000 from the Canada Foundation for Innovation through the John-R.-Evans Leaders Fund (FLJE).

Dr. Anne-Marie Dion-Côté and Dr. Moulay Akhloufi receive respectively $147,767 and $111,923 for their projects.

“We are always delighted when our researchers receive funding that demonstrates their dedication to their field and the quality of their work. Projects like this reaffirms the commitment of the Université de Moncton with its communities to find viable solutions to contemporary issues. Research is precious for our society and would not be possible without the help of granting agencies.“ says Francis LeBlanc, Associate Vice-President for Research and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.

The two research projects are:

Dr. Anne-Marie Dion-Côté - Infrastructure to Study Genome Organization and Evolution

Explanations from Dr. Anne-Marie Dion-Côté:

“Our research aims to better understand the genetic processes underlying evolution. We use molecular tools with applications tanging from the diagnosis of hereditary diseases in humans, to the monitoring of invasive alien species and the development of new methods for the processing of seafood products.”

Dr. Moulay Akhloufi - Artificial Intelligence for Energy – Deep learning for multimodal sensing, swarm robotics, and change detection

Explanations from Dr. Moulay Akhloufi:

This project is part of our research program in applied AI for energy and related fields such as computer vision and intelligent robotic systems. Our program aims to address the current needs of the industry to efficiently produce energy with less climate impact, ensure the integrity of distribution grids, and be proactive in preventing failures. In addition, this grant strengthens our applied research and technology transfer work in AI and allows us to have a positive impact on various companies in our province. Without this type of funding, it would be impossible to help local companies that are in need of AI solutions, as well as recruiting talents that are hard to find in this field.”

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is a non-profit corporation that invests in research infrastructure at Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals and non-profit research institutions.
