Sophie Black and Elimane Gningue are UMoncton’s athletes of the week
Sophie Black from Dieppe, New Brunswick and Elimane Gningue of Dakar, Sénégal, Africa, were chosen as the IRM Moncton MRI athletes of the week for the period of September 12-18, 2022 by the Université de Moncton Athletic Department.
Runner Sophie Black finished 9th in the cross-country race held Saturday in Antigonish with a time of 32m40. It was her first race since 2019, and she still did well in her first few seasons in a Blue Eagles uniform. She is a fifth-year student pursuing a bachelor's degree in nutrition.
Defenceman Elimane Gningue scored his first goal in his first game as a starter in the Aigles Bleus 2-2 draw against Acadia University Axemen on Saturday in men's soccer. He had a solid performance and showed some good skills. He gave his team a 1-0 lead early in the first half. He is a 4th year student in the Bachelor of Civil Engineering program.
