Acadia University's Axewomen (2-0) and Axemen (0-2) will be the visitors Saturday at Stade Medavie Blue Cross Stadium to face the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (0-2) and Aigles Bleus (0-1-1) in Atlantic University Sport soccer games at the Moncton campus.

The two Moncton teams are still looking for a first win of the 2022 season and the practices of the week have placed the focus to emerge victorious from Saturday's games. The women’s game is at 1 p.m. and the men’s at 3:15 p.m.

According to team captain Alexane Dupuis of the Aigles Bleues, “we know the Acadia team is strong, we will have to be careful. We will have to make sure to increase our intensity and be in the game. We will have to be patient with the ball, do the right things and avoid mistakes. We haven't scored a goal yet, but it's coming, we'll have to take advantage of our chances.”

Coach Mehyar Zekaroui knows that Saturday's challenge will be complete. “I like the fact that we're playing just one game this weekend,” he said. “The team held meetings this week to prepare well. We are facing a very good team that won its 2 games and was AUS champion last year. There is a lot of talent and experience. We will have to be faithful to our game and our identity.”

On the men's side, the visitors suffered two setbacks last weekend and Moncton tied and lost its first two games. “We have to build on last week’s successes,” said coach Younes Bouida. “It is important for us to score the first goal. We are looking for our first victory and we will play against a good team.”

“We can't take them lightly, it will be a difficult game,” added captain Thomas Maillet. “We held good training sessions this week to prepare well. We have good players with good team chemistry. We will take the positive of last week and work hard so that our efforts are transmitted on the field on Saturday.”

Coupe d’or d’Acadie

Saturday will feature the girls' and boys’ soccer teams from Mathieu-Martin of Dieppe and L'Odyssée of Moncton schools in the first edition of the Coupe d'or d'Acadie at the stadium. The girls will play their game at 10:15 a.m. before the Aigles Bleues game and the guys at 5:30 p.m. following the Aigles Bleus match. It is a great community action between the school and university programs. Many university players come from school programs.

It is therefore a full day of soccer games that will be presented on Saturday, and everyone is invited to support these teams.
