The Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, federal Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and the Honourable Daniel Allain, provincial Minister of Local Government and Local Governance Reform, were at the Université de Moncton today to announce more than $27.8 million in funding for three Université de Moncton projects.

“The funds announced today are aimed at enriching the student experience by providing quality education and services. Part of this funding will allow us to update our technological facilities to enhance training and promote collaboration and complementarity in the delivery of our programs within the University and among post-secondary institutions in minority situations in Canada. We will be able to train a qualified professional workforce in sectors that are vital to the development and vitality of New Brunswick's Acadian and francophone communities,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Denis Prud'homme.

Three major projects:

Stabilization and capacity building at the Université de Moncton

In response to the pressing and immediate issues facing the Université de Moncton, this project, with the largest share of funding - $18.5 million from the Government of Canada and $5.5 million from the Government of New Brunswick, will be delivered over three years and will allow the Université de Moncton to increase the delivery of its programs in a hybrid fashion and to increase the number of mediated courses using innovative pedagogical methods, as well as to acquire the materials and equipment necessary to deliver the courses. The project will also support ongoing faculty development and training in new pedagogical methods in teaching, mediatization of learning tools and updating of teaching materials.

In addition, this project will make it possible to maintain and increase scholarships and support advertising and promotional efforts to recruit students from New Brunswick, the Atlantic region and elsewhere in Canada.

Renovation and planning of space for the Service d'accès et de soutien à l'apprentissage (SASA) at the three campuses of the Université de Moncton

To meet the increasing demands for accommodation from students, the Service d'accès et de soutien à l'apprentissage (SASA) is becoming an essential support to ensure the implementation of accommodations for students living with diagnoses such as attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity, learning disabilities, psychological or psychiatric disorders, sensory or physical disabilities during their academic career.

With a contribution of $812,407 from the Government of Canada over two years and $812,407 from the Government of New Brunswick over one year, the University will undertake renovations and acquire essential equipment and furniture for SASA facilities on all three campuses. These renovations will allow SASA to adapt and renovate its spaces to better meet the needs of students by providing adequate office space for consultations, soundproofed and isolated study and examination rooms, and common areas.

Renovations to the Technology Branch and updating of computer equipment at the Université de Moncton

This project will upgrade computer equipment in labs and classrooms at the Moncton, Edmundston and Shippagan campuses to accommodate new technologies and strengthen the network and cybersecurity facilities linking the three campuses. The project will create spaces for virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D printing, Lightboard technology and other hybrid or online teaching technologies that will enable creative, collaborative learning and networking among the university community.

The project will also renovate the Technology Branch spaces at the Jeanne-de-Valois Pavilion on the Moncton campus, including the renovation of the 3D printing studio and the video studio. These spaces will be complemented by collaboration rooms, an experimental teaching classroom, and a distance education studio.

Funding of $1,122,665 from the Government of Canada over two years and $1,122,666 over one year from the Government of New Brunswick will make this project possible.

These projects are funded under the Canada-New Brunswick Agreement on minority language education and second language instruction 2019-2020 to 2022-2023.
