Highlights from the April 9 Board of Governors Meeting

University Adopts Balanced Budget with a Focus on Student Services

The Board of Governors of the Université de Moncton has adopted a balanced 2022-2023 budget, which shows a budget surplus of $1.2 million.

While the financial outlook for the Université de Moncton is better than expected, the institution faces significant challenges. “We need short-term investments to update our student services, our technological infrastructure and our buildings,” said Dr. Denis Prud'homme, President and Vice-Chancellor. “Although we have seen an increase in enrolment over the past few years, the New Brunswick government grant is still below inflation and in the current economic climate, we must be vigilant.” Additionally, one-time reductions in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 have been returned to faculty and departmental budgets.

The budget includes a significant investment of $1.42 million, an increase of more than 19% over the 2021-2022 budget, in student services at all three campuses. These funds will be used to create scholarships in addition to enhancing psychology and technology services.

The board also approved a 2% tuition increase for all students, a significant decrease from the increases of the past three years.

Appointments Approved by the Board of Governors

The appointments of Natalie Carrier, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Community Services, Pandurang Ashrit, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Yves Bourgeois, Dean of Studies at the Shippagan campus, were renewed for a period of five years. Michel T. Léger was selected as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Education.
