Caroline Gagnon and Samuel Bourque are UMoncton's Athletes of the Week

Caroline Gagnon of Moncton and Samuel Bourque of Notre-Dame-de-Kent, New Brunswick, are the IRM Moncton MRI athletes for the week from March 14 to 20, 2022 as chosen by the Athletic Department of the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton.

The two athletes distinguished themselves last weekend at the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Track and Field Championships held at the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud on the Moncton campus.

Caroline Gagnon won a gold medal in the 60 m hurdles and set a new mark in this discipline for an athlete from the Université de Moncton. She completed the distance in 9.09 seconds. She then added a silver medal with the 4X200m relay team that finished second in this exciting race with a time of 1:48.98. She took 9th position in the 60 m race. She is a member of AUS 60 mh all-star team and the second relay team. She is ranked first in AUS and 26th in U SPORTS for the 60 mh and 9th AUS for the 60 m. She is a first-year medical student.

Samuel Bourque was chosen AUS male track and field rookie of the year with his two gold medals in weight and hammer throw. He set two institutional records in both events and is a member of two AUS all-star teams. He managed a best throw of 16:59m in shot put, more than two meters ahead of his closest rival. In the weight throw, he scored 16:35m in distance. He is ranked 3rd for a shootout in U SPORTS and 7th for weight throw. He is a third-year administration coop-finances student.
