The Atlantic University Sport track and field championships attracted 224 athletes from 10 member universities on Friday and Saturday at the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud on the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton.

The Aigles Bleues and Aigles Bleus will have 36 athletes in action during the two days of competition. Athletes in attendance are from Acadia, Cape Breton, Dalhousie, Memorial, St. Francis Xavier, Saint Mary's, St. Thomas, University of New Brunswick, University of Prince Edward Island and Moncton universities.

The last AUS championship dates to the 2019-2020 season. The Dalhousie University Tigers had won the women's and men's championships. On the women's side, Dalhousie has been champion for 31 years, since the 1989-1990 season when the Aigles Bleues won the title. The Tigers' men's team has won the last six titles and St. Francis Xavier won in 2013-14. Moncton last won in 2000-2001.

This competition will be the first for many of the Université de Moncton rookie athletes. There was no competition last year and the athletes were able to benefit from two preparatory competitions in three weeks.

“Our two teams are in a good position to finish the competition on the podium,” said coach Steve LeBlanc. “It will be a battle for both teams.  There are some injuries, but everyone is determined to fight for every possible point. Athletes with great opportunities to win medals and possibly qualify for the national championships are: Véronique Omalosanga (60m, 300m), Caroline Gagnon (60m hurdles), Kyla Hughes (weight), Rachelle Haché (hammer), and the 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams. Among the men, note Samuel Bourque (weight, hammer) and Max Mazerolle (heptathlon, pole vault). Having the competition at CEPS could be an advantage, especially if we have a lot of fans cheering for our athletes.”

The members of the Aigles Bleues competing are Roxanne Albert, Vickie Albert, Zoé Brockbank, Amélie Cormier, Destiny Crabbe, Valérie Déry, Natalie Flemming, Caroline Gagnon, Martine Haché, Rachelle Haché, Kyla Hughes, Joëlle Léger, Isabella Lemaire, Hannah Levyssohn, Hillary MacLean, Monica Mazerolle, Charlotte Neander, Véronique Omalosanga, Alexandra Roy and Camille Ruest. The members of the Aigles Bleus are Yannick Boudreau, Samuel Bourque, Gabriel Gagné, Jérémie Gervais, Monty Christian Kpan, Noah Langille, Alain Lavoie, Max Mazerolle, Lucas Poirier, Steve Richard, Samuel Robichaud, Jonathan Roy, Maxime Savoie, Jasmin Tardif, Jérémie Thériault and Julien Thibodeau.

Competitions begin Friday 18th at noon and will end around 6:45 p.m. On Saturday, competitions are from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
