Two Education Research Projects Receive SSHRC Funding

The Université de Moncton is proud to announce that two education research projects have each received nearly $25,000 in funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) for this year.

“We are always delighted when our researchers receive funding that recognizes the quality of their work. Research in Acadie is valuable and would not be possible without the help of granting agencies such as the major councils,” says Francis LeBlanc, Assistant Vice President Research and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.

The two research projects are:

Project S’entr’Apprendre: Teaching Each Other in an "Innovation Garage", a Space for a Pedagogy that Engages Students

Project Summary:

The CompeTI.CA Network team has just been awarded a $24,845 grant under the SSHRC's Partnership Engagement program. Viktor Freiman, professor in the Department of Elementary Education and Psychopedagogy, Faculty of Education, will act as principal investigator along with his colleagues, Michel Léger, professor in the same department, Jeanne Godin, professor in the School of Food Science, Nutrition and Family Studies, Faculty of Health Sciences and Community Services, and Xavier Robichaud, professor of Education in the Administration, Arts and Humanities Sector of the Shippagan Campus. The researchers will work closely with Mireille Bertin-Post, Executive Director of Learning and Dr. Mario Chiasson, Director of Research, Innovation and Change for the District scolaire francophone Sud (DSF). The project will study the transformations experienced by the pilot schools of the S'entr'Apprendre project inviting students to co-create, validate, and reflect in a malleable, dynamic, and flexible space.

Workplace Well-Being and Burnout: The Experience of Members of the Association des enseignants et des enseignantes francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick (AEFNB)

Project Summary:

This project is led by Caterina Mamprin, professor of education in the Administration, Arts and Humanities Sector of the Shippagan campus, in collaboration with Louise Clément, associate professor in the Department of Foundations and Practices in Education in the Faculty of Education at Université Laval. The project is carried out in partnership with the Association des enseignants et des enseignantes francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick (AEFNB).

COVID-19 continues to shake the educational community and many researchers have highlighted the deleterious effects of this situation on teacher burnout and well-being. While the difficulties experienced by some teachers have been documented many times prior to the health crisis, the suboptimal psychological and emotional state of these workers remains a subject of interest as it can have important repercussions, particularly on the establishment of an educational relationship that promotes student learning. In partnership with the Association des enseignants et enseignantes francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick (AEFNB), the objective of this research is to establish an assessment of the needs of the teachers who are members of this association regarding their well-being at work and the burnout they may experience. The data collected will allow for a better match between the needs of teachers and the support offered by the AEFNB. From a scientific perspective, this project will allow us to study the concept of “well-being at work among teachers” by considering its various philosophical and theoretical foundations.
