Catherine Longchamps and Mika Cyr are UMoncton's Athletes of the Week
Catherine Longchamps, from Airdrie, Alberta and Mika Cyr, from Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska, New Brunswick, are the athletes of the IRM Moncton MRI week from February 28 to March 6, 2022 as chosen by the Athletic Department of the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton.
The number 6 defensive player of the Aigles Bleues in women's hockey, Catherine Longchamps, finished Saturday's game at +2 with 2 shots on goal. Her work in the defensive zone limited the number of shots against her goalkeeper and contributed greatly to his team's first win against the Reds this season. On Tuesday, she finished the game at +1 in an overtime loss. Her work also helped to effectively counter the opposing offensive. She finished the year with 6 assists in 16 games. She is a science-education-mathematics student.
Rookie and centre Mika Cyr completes his first season on the ice with the Aigles Bleus in men's hockey. He scored one goal on 3 shots and won 6 of 10 face offs Saturday in his team's shootout loss. He added a goal and an assist on Friday and finished +2 on 3 shots and won 11 of 12 face offs in the 4-1 win. He finished the regular season with 9 goals and 13 assists for 22 points in 24 games, ranked 10th among the best scorers on the circuit and second best on his team. He is a second-year student in education-physical education.
