A 100th game for Vincent Deslauriers this weekend

Team captain Vincent Deslauriers will play his 99th and 100th games in an Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus uniform in men's hockey this weekend during Atlantic University Sport games.

The Aigles Bleus (5-13-1-1=12pts, 7th position) will be in Nova Scotia for two games. On Friday, the Saint Mary's University Huskies (7-11-1-1=16pts, 5th position) will be the opponents and Saturday, the Acadia University Axemen (6-13-0-0=12pts, 6th position) will receive the visit in Wolfville.

The two opponents are in the sights of the Aigles Bleus to climb in the standings before the playoffs. Moncton has four games to play and has lost its last five games. Acadia has lost its last two games and Saint Mary's, its last six.

“I didn't know I was at 100 games,” said the student/athlete who is competing in his fourth year with the blue and gold. “I'm excited about this milestone, but first and foremost, I want our team to win both games of the weekend. They will not be different from the others in my eyes, we must play well to win them.”

Deslauriers began his career in 2017-2018 following five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with Baie-Comeau and Sherbrooke. “These are two teams within our reach at the end of the week, we need to climb the standings. The end of the season is fast approaching, and the playoffs will follow. It's interesting to have played 100 games in the Aigles Bleus uniform. I am proud to wear the jersey. I arrived with the beginning of a renewed program, and I am happy with the progress made. From rookie to captain, I adapted to university hockey and gained a lot of confidence. I have enjoyed my courses in business and now for a master's degree. I had the chance to study and play and I got involved at the Université de Moncton and with the Aigles Bleus without hesitation. My best memory is two years ago when we played in the semi-finals to attend the Canadian championship.”

Hockey has been a big part of Vincent Deslauriers' life and his leadership has been recognized by being named captain for the last two years. He says he has a lot of respect for the program and loves life in the area. He would like to play professional hockey, but he has no plans now. If a business opportunity arises, he will also consider it. "We want to win in the playoffs too and get as far as possible. That's now my focus.”

“It's a very, very interesting weekend,” added coach Judes Vallée. “We have to work harder and pay the price in the defensive zone. We need to improve our defensive game in our zone and score more goals. We leave our zone a little too fast and we need to do it as a unit to attack. Our special units must also perform. Our league is very competitive, and we have to play with confidence.”

Moncton has scored 45 goals and allowed 77 in 19 games, Acadia is 48 and 76 and Saint Mary's, 74 and 80.
