Gabriel Cormier Appointed Vice President, Administration and Human Resources

The Board of Governors of the Université de Moncton today announced the appointment of Gabriel Cormier as Vice-Rector, Administration and Human Resources, effective January 1.

Gabriel Cormier holds a PhD from Carleton University in electrical engineering (2007) and is currently dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Université de Moncton. He completed a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Applied Sciences at the Université de Moncton.

A professional engineer since 2009, Dr. Cormier is very involved in the community. He is a past president and past vice-president of the Board of Directors (Moncton Chapter) of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick. Dr. Cormier has been a member of various committees, including the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the Committee of Examiners (the entrance exam to the profession).

He began his career at the Université de Moncton in 2003 as a lecturer. Over the next 20 years, he rose through the ranks in various positions including Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering (2014-2015), Associate Dean (2015-2019) and Dean (since 2020). He was promoted to full professor in July 2021.

Gabriel Cormier is an active member of the university community. He has been a member of the Academic Senate, the COVID-19 Operational Plan Evaluation Committee (administrative and academic components), the Cybersecurity Working Group, the Negotiation Committee for the collective agreement of the Association of Technicians at the Université de Moncton, the Experiential Learning Advisory Committee, the Joint Health and Safety Committee, the Joint Tenure and Promotion Committee, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Scholarship Committee, and many others.

On the research front, Dr. Cormier has received numerous important grants and awards, including from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation and NSERC. He is recognized for his expertise in the development of the microwave tumor ablation process. In addition, his publications include 16 arbitrated papers, 12 conferences (national and international), one book chapter, and four technical reports.
