The Atlantic University Sport soccer regular season ends this weekend, and the Université de Moncton Aigles will play four road games in St John's Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Memorial University Sea-Hawks will be the opponents Friday and Saturday of the Aigles Bleues and Aigles Blue in their final two games of the 2021-2022 season. The games will take place at 5 p.m. (women) and 7:15 p.m. (men) on Friday evening and at 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The Aigles Bleues (0-10-0=0pts, 10th position) have no chance of qualifying for the AUS championship tournament and are still looking for a first win this season. The Sea-Hawks (8-2-0=24pts, 2nd position) have just won their last five meetings and have qualified for the tournament. The games will not be easy for the visitors.

Rookie Leila Karam (2 goals, 1 pass = 3pts) of the Aigles Bleues still predicts important games from her team. “They have a very good team, but we remain positive in view of these two games,” she said. “We trained hard for these last games, even knowing that we are eliminated. This will be the last games for Natalie Fleming. We are looking for this first victory. It will take demanding work and remaining focused from start to finish. It will go well, and we still have hope.”

“We intend to continue our efforts to have a first positive result,” said coach Mehyar Zekaroui. “We have the will to play well, and I hope to have two good performances in two games in a row in 24 hours. We haven't experienced that this season.”

The Aigles Bleus (4-5-1=13pts, 8th position) are 3 points away from the sixth and last qualifying position for the AUS championship and the team is still hopeful. The Sea-Hawks (5-4-1=16pts, 5th position) are also fighting for a qualification, which suggests intense weekend games between these two clubs.

“We need both wins to advance,” said coach Younes Bouida. “We have our destiny in our hands. We will have to give everything and take advantage of our chances to win. It will not be easy, but we are capable.”

For Félix Robichaud, a veteran of four seasons, “these are two particularly important games, we cannot afford mistakes. We need wins to get to the playoffs. We worked hard during our last training. It's a long journey and we need to stay positive by working hard to look for the wins. We didn't play them this season, but we watched their games from a distance to study their attack. Whatever the result, we will leave everything on the field, have fun and we should not be disappointed with our performances. We want to finish it all in style.”

It is possible to watch the games on AUStv.ca.
