Marika Gagnon and Samuel Guilbault are the UMoncton athletes of the week
Marika Gagnon, from Embrun, Ontario and Samuel Guilbault, from Varennes, Quebec, are the athletes of the week from October 18 to 24 as chosen by the Athletic Department of the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton.
A winger, Marika Gagnon of
the Aigles Bleues women's hockey scored twice in her team's two weekend games. She
stood out by her exemplary play in all three areas of the ice surface and her work was
noticed. The first-year student took one shot on Saturday and four on Friday night,
finishing +1. She is a first-year student in the Bachelor of Arts-Psychology
Program.
Samuel Guilbault was the spark plug for the Aigles Bleus in men's hockey with two goals in 28 seconds and an assist in the third period that allowed his team to erase a 2-0 deficit and win 4-2 on Saturday. An attacker, it was his team’s first victory of the season following 5 setbacks in a row. He took 3 shots on goal Friday and 3 others on Saturday in addition to finishing the game at +3. His two goals evened the score and his pass was on the winning goal, about 2 minutes after the equalizer. He is a third-year student in the bachelor's degree in leisure, sport and tourism management.
