Men's Hockey: Aigles Bleus to face Reds Wednesday in Fredericton

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus begin their 57th season on the road in men's hockey Wednesday evening by visiting the University of New Brunswick Reds in an Atlantic University Sport regular season game at 7 p.m. at the Aitken University Centre in Fredericton.

In a pre-season game, the Reds defeated the Aigles Bleus 3-0 and the regular season promises for both teams. The Blue and Gold will however be without the services of some players injured during the preseason, including team captain Vincent Deslauriers. Defenders Alexandre Bernier, Francis Thibeault and Olivier Desjardins could miss the game as well as Remy Englehart, Deslauriers and Olivier-Luc Haché, three centers.

"We are in a difficult phase in terms of injuries," said head coach Judes Vallée. “We will see on Wednesday who will be able to play. We're going to play the Reds with a banged-up lineup. However, we need to build on the basics. We played five pre-season games that resulted in several injuries. It's the chance for other players to take charge.”

Rookie goalkeeper Émile Samson did a good job in front of the cage last Friday, he will be the starter on Wednesday. "It's their opening game, it's never easy to play there,” Vallée added. “We are still looking for the chemistry of the team and we will play the best we can. We are going there to win. We placed players in chairs that were not theirs lately. The synergy of the troop must improve to play a collective game. We need a great effort by all with things to work on. »

Versatile player Wilson Forest of Matane, Quebec is looking forward to this game and says he is ready to play the position he is asked to play. "I played as a defender in my first year and now as a forward," he said. “I enjoy playing forward, but I will go back to defense if necessary. The game will not be easy, but we are looking forward to the beginning of the season. We will have to play well as a unit to counter the Reds' efforts. They have a very good team, and we will have to take advantage of our chances. »

The Blue and Gold's first home game will be Saturday when the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers will be the visitors at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
