Highlights of the April 17 Board of Governors meeting

A better financial position than expected

The Université de Moncton’s current financial picture is more favourable than what was anticipated in the budget projections made in September 2020, owing primarily to higher-than-forecast enrollment for the 2020/21 fall and winter semesters. “We are delighted to see that students continue to trust the Université de Moncton to provide them with a quality education despite the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Denis Prud’homme.

A major challenge remains, however, as the university is still projecting a cumulative year-end deficit of over $2.3 million for 2020/21.

The university’s 2021/22 budget, approved in September 2020, projected a deficit of approximately $2.8 million. Higher enrollment in 2020/21 should improve the situation, although there is still much uncertainty as to how the pandemic will play out and what its impact on the university will be.

Renewal approved by the Board of Governors

Izold Guihur, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Administration, was reappointed for a five-year term. She will serve until June 30, 2026.

Appointment approved by the Board of Governors

Benoit Doyon-Gosselin has been appointed Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research for the period of July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2026.

New program

A new diploma program in community analysis and action will be offered at the Edmundston and Shippagan campuses. The program provides basic training in human relations, community and organizational action, and management and targets learners looking for a shorter program so that they can enter the job market more quickly. The program may also better equip people currently in the workforce to take on certain responsibilities and tasks in the workplace. It will facilitate the recruitment of workers for the community, public and para-public organizations in New Brunswick, elsewhere in Canada and internationally.
