Women’s Hockey: Maritza Labrie Joins the Aigles Bleues

The Université de Moncton’s Aigles Bleues will have a new recruit for the 2021-2022 Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey season. Maritza Labrie, who plays centre, has signed a U SPORTS letter of intent to join the Moncton club.

The five-foot, seven-inch Saint-Quentin native currently plays with the Edza West U18 AAA Reds in Fredericton.

“We’re very happy to have Maritza join our team,” says Marc-André Côté, head coach of the Aigles Bleues. “She’s continually improved her game over the years, which is a very good sign. She skates and shoots well and is good at regaining the puck. We look forward to working with her as she continues to grow.”

“I’m very excited about joining the Aigles family at the Université de Moncton next fall,” says Labrie. “I will work hard to make the Acadian community proud of me. My passion for the sport started in minor hockey when I was five. I began playing on a boys team and continued up to the inter-school level with my school, Polyvalente Alexandre J. Savoie. Then I had the chance to play last year with the Ontario Hockey Academy in Cornwall, which really helped me boost my fitness and skill level. I’ve always had the support of family, friends and people around me, not to mention two great female role models: Kim Deschênes, who played for the Montreal Carabins and the Montreal Canadiennes, and Kristine Labrie, who also played for the Aigles Bleues. For me, joining the Moncton team will be an exciting challenge and one that I’m very proud to accept!”
