Université de Moncton Plays a Key Role in Retaining Talent in New Brunswick

A study conducted by the Centre de recherche et de développement en éducation (CRDE) shows that the vast majority of Université de Moncton graduates live in New Brunswick and hold jobs related to their field of study.

According to this study, most graduates work in New Brunswick (87%) at all levels. At the undergraduate level, 94% of those who had a permanent address in New Brunswick at the time of their program enrollment are employed in New Brunswick. At the graduate level, this rate is 98.3%. The CRDE study reports that New Brunswick graduates tend to return to work in their county of origin (undergraduate, 74.5%; graduate, 62.1%).

Almost all respondents who participated in the study were employed, 96.7% at the undergraduate level and 92.9% at the graduate level. In addition, most reported having employment directly or partially related to their program of study. At the undergraduate level, most (88.8%) took less than three months to find employment that was directly or partially related to their program of study. No respondent took more than 12 months to find their first job related to their program.

“We are particularly pleased to see that our graduates are finding jobs quickly and often related to their field of study,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Denis Prud’homme. “The study clearly demonstrates that graduation from Université de Moncton is an important factor in retaining talent in New Brunswick.”

The objective of the CRDE study was to describe the academic and professional career paths of Université de Moncton graduates. It was conducted in 2019 with graduates who obtained their bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees at one of the three Université de Moncton campuses in 2018. One exception was made: law graduates participating in this study were from the 2017 graduating class.

In all, 488 individuals participated in the study, representing an overall participation rate of 50.6% of the 2018 graduates.
