The Université de Moncton receives funding for COVID-19 research

Four researchers at the Université de Moncton are receiving funding totalling $115,910 to explore new ways to detect and treat COVID-19 and to assess its effects on different spheres of society.

“Research and innovation are essential to counteract COVID-19’s negative effects,” said Francis LeBlanc, Associate Vice-President of Research and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. “We’re delighted that our researchers and their cutting-edge work are going to be able to be part of the solution. This funding will serve to stimulate research into COVID-19 and to learn from this world-wide crisis.”

The following researchers are being funded:

  • Suzanne Dupuis-Blanchard, Professor in the School of Nursing: “Perception, consequences and mediation of social distancing in older adults in the community and physical distancing in families with a relative in a LTC facility during the COVID-19 pandemic”
  • Claire Johnson, Professor in the École des hautes études publiques: “Changements dans les pratiques organisationnelles des soins primaires au Nouveau-Brunswick pendant la pandémie du COVID-19”
  • Moulay Akhloufi, Professor in the Department of Computer Science: “Detection of COVID-19 using artificial intelligence”
  • Gilles Robichaud, Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry: “Development of a sensitive and real-time approach for COVID-19 detection”

This funding comes from the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation, in partnership with the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
