The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus will be able to count on a new defenceman, Justin Miron, for the next Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s hockey season.

The 21-year-old defenceman has signed his U SPORTS letter of intention to suit up with the Moncton campus club. He measures 6′2″ and weighs 190 lb. He is from Mirabel, Québec. He played the last two seasons with the Hearst Lumberjacks of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League. He scored 10 goals and added 31 assists for 41 points in 100 regular season games and added 2 assists in one playoff game.

“I am very excited to get the chance to play with the Aigles Bleus,” Miron noted. “I do not have a lot of knowledge of university hockey, but it is a high calibre of play and that is what I am seeking. My interest is to play and study at the same time. To get a permanent spot on the team, I will have to work hard and prove I can play at that level. I played well with the Lumberjacks the last two seasons. My former coach referred me to Hearst coach Marc Lafleur. I was incredibly happy to play there, and I did progress a lot as a player under his guidance.”

Éric Lachance, a family member, played four seasons with the Aigles Bleus. A few years ago, he encouraged Justin Miron to attend the Moncton campus and try out with the Aigles Bleus, and Miron had hoped to one day play for the team. He wore the Amos Forestiers AAA jersey in midget ranks before heading to British Columbia in the junior B league for a season to play and learn English. He also played a season with the Lionel-Groulx CEGEP team. He works hard and his ethics have helped him play high calibre hockey. He did participate in sports-study programs. He will study kinesiology at the Moncton campus.

“We look forward to having Justin Miron on the ice,” Moncton coach Judes Vallée said. “He is aware of the high calibre of AUS hockey play, and I am sure he will find his place on the team. He adds strength, size and depth to our defensive team.”
