Message on the Death of Richard Losier
The Université de Moncton wishes to honor the late Richard Losier, donor and recipient of an honorary doctorate from the Université.
Mr. Losier, besides being the proud founder of Saint-Isidore Asphalte located on the Acadian Peninsula, was a philanthropist who was strongly engaged in his community.
“Mr. Losier was a respected, committed businessperson who believed deeply in the education of young people,” said Jacques Paul Couturier, interim President and Vice-Chancellor. “He was a great philanthropist, and his exceptional generosity enabled numerous young people to pursue their dream of access to a university education. We are sincerely saddened by Mr. Losier’s passing.”
Mr. Losier recognized the Université de Moncton’s importance to Acadian society and to all of New Brunswick, so he created the Fonds de bourses Richard-Losier in 1996 and the Fonds de bourses Saint-Isidore Asphalte in 2011.
Mr. Losier was named life member of the Association des anciens, anciennes et amis de l’Université de Moncton, Shippagan campus, in 1997. He became a Companion of the Order of Regents of the Université de Moncton in 2000 and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Business Administration degree in 2012.
The administration of the Université de Moncton and the whole university committee join in expressing their sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
