Plans for September oriented towards distance instruction

The Université de Moncton has commenced alternative academic planning that gives priority to distance instruction for the 2020 autumn semester while maintaining a limited number of in-person activities. The plan will be adapted to the situation on each campus.

The New Brunswick COVID-19 recovery plan has obliged postsecondary establishment to reduce as much as possible the number of persons who will be on campus in 2020-2021.

“This seems to us to be the most realistic course for now, because it prioritizes the health and safety of all members of the university community,” said interim President and Vice-Chancellor Jacques Paul Couturier. “It will be developed carefully to maintain the highest quality of instruction, notably thanks to the instructional support that will be provided to faculty members to take up a challenge of this magnitude.”

The detailed plan will be divulged by June 1, 2020, as soon as the teams have finished their work. “Since the planning process began, I want to emphasize how the collaboration among units, UARD, faculties and campuses has been, is and will be the key to success in maximizing the high-quality education that we will be offering to our student population,” said Mr. Couturier in conclusion.

In preparing the plan for the autumn semester, the Université de Moncton will also ensure that it is providing the services required to support student success and services. “To the extent that the majority of activities could be accomplished remotely, we will have to be creative and recreate virtually the vibrant, human student life that characterizes all three campuses of the Université de Moncton,” noted Mr. Couturier.
