Impact of COVID-19 Public Health Restrictions on the Université de Moncton

Despite the loosening of certain COVID-19 public health restrictions announced by the provincial government on April 24, the Université de Moncton remains closed to the public at this time. Access to facilities on all three university campuses is limited to authorized persons, and all in‑person (classroom) teaching remains suspended until further notice.

The loosening of public health restrictions represents the first phase of New Brunswick’s recovery plan, which will be guided by four distinct public health alert levels. Although universities and colleges are listed under the first phase, planning for a return to normal will ultimately be initiated during subsequent phases of the recovery plan.

“We are currently looking at the second phase of the recovery plan for activities at the Université de Moncton,” stated Jacques Paul Couturier, interim president and vice-chancellor. “The plan we are developing will include a limited and gradual return to campus. We will continue to engage in remote work and learning while also authorizing the resumption of limited in-person activities that cannot be done remotely.”

As part of planning the return to campus of staff and specific segments of the student population, the Université de Moncton will ensure that all measures taken are consistent with New Brunswick’s recovery plan and the recommendations of the chief medical officer of health. “Our priority is to protect the health and safety of all members of the university community,” added Dr. Couturier.
