Message on the Passing of Bernard Imbeault

The Université de Moncton wishes to pay tribute to Bernard Imbeault, proud alumnus, donor and honorary Ph.D. recipient, on learning of his passing.

Originally from Matane in the Gaspé Peninsula, Mr. Imbeault began post-secondary studies at the Université de Moncton in 1966. He went on to earn a bachelor of commerce degree specializing in economics in 1967, a master of commerce degree in 1968 and a master of business administration degree in 1969.

“We have lost a giant in the business world and a great friend of the Université de Moncton,” stated Jacques Paul Couturier, interim president and vice-chancellor. “Bernard Imbeault was a private man but known far and wide for his generosity. Mr. Imbeault’s dedication to the Université de Moncton knew no bounds and took many forms, through not only his philanthropy but also his regular presence at university events ranging from graduation ceremonies to Aigles Bleues hockey games, which he attended to show support for our students. We are all greatly saddened and mourn his passing.”

Mr. Imbeault was successful in many areas of his life, including business. He co-founded Pizza Delight Corporation, today known as Imvescor and well-known across many regions of Canada.

A generous donor, Mr. Imbeault cared deeply about the youth of Acadia. His donations supported the creation of both the Fonds de bourses Famille Imbeault and the Fonds de bourses Famille Imbeault – Formation médicale/FAÉUNB. He was a Companion of the Order of Regents and Companion of the Order of the Chancellor.

He received an honorary doctor of business administration degree from the Université de Moncton in 2003. In 2008, he was also recipient of the Order of Merit of L’alUMni, the alumni association of the Université de Moncton.

On behalf of the entire university community, the administration of the Université de Moncton extends its sincerest condolences to Mr. Imbeault’s family and friends.

Flags on all three campuses of the Université de Moncton will fly at half-mast on the day of the funeral.
