COVID-19 Emergency Fund Established for Students

The Université de Moncton has announced the creation of an emergency fund to assist students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic on all three of its campuses.

The purpose of the COVID-19 emergency fund is to provide essential short-term support to students coping with pandemic-related financial, food or housing problems.

“It is important to offer support and show our solidarity with the most vulnerable members of our student community,” stated Jacques Paul Couturier, interim president and vice-chancellor of the Université de Moncton. “Many of our students are directly affected by the current crisis and experiencing its negative impact. Some have lost jobs or had to abandon paid internships, while others have been unable to return home due to the closure of certain international borders.”

Over the coming days, members of the university community, alumni and the general public will be encouraged to show their support for students facing financial challenges by donating to the COVID-19 emergency fund. The Université de Moncton and the student associations on all three campuses have already committed to contributing to the new fund.

Additional details and donation information for the COVID-19 emergency fund will be rolled out within the next few days. Every effort is being made to promote students’ well-being and set them up for success as classes resume remotely on March 30 after a two-week shutdown due to the current situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
