Université de Moncton will send a team of 37 athletes Friday and Saturday in Saint John for the annual Subway Atlantic University Sport track and field championships.

Moncton coach Steve LeBlanc predicts his teams will win at least 12 medals and the women should finish higher in the final team standings. “It will be different because I am not an organizer this year,” LeBlanc said. “This is my 13th AUS championship and my first as being only a coach. The women’s team could surprise and take second spot in the team standings. It will be difficult for the men, but we could end up in fourth. We could also have a few surprises in some events.”

Samuel Bourque will attend his first AUS championship. “I have big expectations and I hope I will not be too nervous so as to affect my performance,” Bourque indicated. “Mental preparation is important and I need to eliminate distractions to do well in shot put and hammer. I would enjoy a top-5 finish in both events and will need distances of more than 12 and 13 m.”

“I am looking for a personal best in shot put and I aim to win and attend the national championship,” said Kyla Hughes, who will attend her second AUS. “I also wish to gain more points in every event of the pentathlon in my first competition. I have attended many practices in the last months and my technic is much better.”

Isabelle Boudreau, Zoé Brockbank, Destiny Crabbe, Jessie Drouin, Natalie Fleming, Caroline Gagnon, Constance Gilman, Martine Haché, Rachelle Haché, Kyle Hughes, Joëlle Léger, Hillary Maclean, Sharon Ngongo, Véronique Omalosanga, Gedeline Pitre, Sara Ramos, Lisa Richard, Pascale Richard, Alexandra Roy, Christine Ryan, Mia Schofield and Léa Yazbek are the Aigles Bleues attending the competition.

The Aigles Bleus are Maxime Alarich, Yannick Boudreau, Samuel Bourque, Samuel Farag, Marc Guillodo, Christian Haché, Monty Kpan, Noah Langille, Alain Lavoie, Laurent Martel, Steve Richard, Samuel Robichaud, Alex Roussel, Jonathan Roy and Emmanuel Zangio.
