In Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s hockey, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (8-18-2=18 points, 6th position) will travel to Charlottetown on Thursday for the first game of the Subway best of 3 quarterfinals against the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Panthers (20-7-1=41 points, 3rd position).

Moncton ended the regular season in sixth position and UPEI was third. There are 23 points separating both teams. The Panthers won three out of four encounters between the two teams this season.

Aigles Bleues captain Katherine Dubuc believes in her team’s chances of winning this first series. “We did qualify for the playoffs, and we are very happy,” she said. “We are where we wanted to be, and nothing changes for the playoffs. We will bring our play up a notch and go full speed ahead. We will play our game and we can do wonderful things if we play well. We will put traffic in front of the net and shoot. We will not give much in our defensive zone.”

“We did bring a few adjustments this week thinking ahead for this series,” coach Marc-André Côté indicated. “We have a few players not dressed, but we will focus on our strengths and control what we can.”

The second game is slated for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

  • The last AUS championship for Moncton was in 2013-2014.
