Women’s Hockey: Aigles Bleues Host Reds

In Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s hockey, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (7-18-1=15 points, 6th position) play their last two hockey games of the regular season at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

Moncton and Dalhousie are presently in a battle for the sixth and final playoff qualifying spot. The Aigles Bleues host the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Reds (17-9-0=34 points, 4th position) Saturday at 3p.m. and the Mount Allison University Mounties (3-21-2=8 points, 8th position), Monday at 7p.m. Moncton has 15 standing points with two games remaining and Dalhousie has 14 with one game left to play.

“We are planning to capture the sixth spot on Saturday,” Aigles Bleues coach Marc-André Côté indicated. “I realize we have not played that well against UNB this season, but it will be different on Saturday. We will go on the same wave as last week after a very nice win. It’s time to put it all together. We will keep the same recipe as last week. We have played well against the Mounties and it should continue Monday. We don’t want the added pressure of waiting until our last game to qualify.”

Audrey Berthiaume will be in nets Saturday. The Aigles Bleues need to pay attention to Reds’ Ashley Stratton, the top scorer and second in AUS race with 11 goals and 17 assists, for 28 points. Katherine Dubuc is top for Moncton with 4 and 8, for 12 points. Catherine Longchamp follows with 11 points (1-10). UNB and Moncton have won their last game and Mount Allison has lost its last six. UNB has scored 70 goals in 26 games and allowed 48. Moncton’s record is 38-73 and Mount Allison’s is 22-86.
