In Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey, spectators will get a chance to live a 1960s retro game on Friday evening as the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (10-8-6-0=26 points, 4th position) play the first of two weekend home games at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

Moncton can secure its place in the playoffs with two wins by playing against lower-ranked teams. The St. Francis Xavier University X-Men (10-11-3=23 points, 5th position) will be the visitors on Friday as the Bleu et Or team will wear jerseys as those worn by the first Université de Moncton teams back in seasons 1964-1965 and 1965-1966. Saturday, Moncton will host the Dalhousie University Tigers (5-16-2=12 points, 7th position). Both games will take place at 7 p.m.

“This is an interesting weekend that could decide our chances of taking the third spot,” said Moncton coach Judes Vallée. “The players are aware of the importance of the weekend games. The team aims for third place, and we must have very good first periods to achieve our goal. We battled all season for this, and we must leave our print in both games. I need a big commitment from all players to get the four points. The Friday game will be interesting. The retro jerseys of the first Aigles Bleus edition will be a source of motivation for us.”

“It will be interesting to play in those jerseys and socks,” said defenceman Olivier Desjardins. “They will be a great motivation for us to win in front of our fans. Both games are important to attain our objectives. We do not have a choice but to win. We worked on our special units and offensive and defensive plays this week. We wish to block all shots.”

Dalhousie has 12 points with seven games to play and is ranked 7th and last standing place. Only the 7th place team does not qualify for the playoffs. The Bleu et Or has six games left to play in the regular schedule. Fans are encouraged to wear clothing in colours and logos of their years on the Moncton campus.
