Men’s Hockey: Aigles Bleus to Host Huskies and Axemen

In Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (9-8-5-0=23 points, 4th position) are playing two games at home this weekend. The Aigles Bleus have lost their last three games, and coach Judes Vallée and the players are looking forward to a win.

The Saint Mary’s University Huskies (12-10-0=24 points, 3rd position) and the Acadia University Axemen (17-5-0=34 points, 2nd position) will visit the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at 7 p.m. Acadia University and University of New Brunswick are already assured of a playoff spot.

“We must regroup and win games,” coach Judes Vallée indicated. “These are extremely important games. We have eight games left in regular schedule, and the standings are very tight. We are aiming for the third spot. These two games have no tomorrow. We must be well prepared, especially against the Huskies. We have had difficulties against them this season. Our play in the first period needs to go up a notch. Our individual preparation is vital for this. We know we can play well in the second and third periods.”

“We know the importance of these games,” said player Robbie Graham, of Dieppe. “We have difficulty playing well in the first period and we need to do more. We will try a different set of warm up. I enjoy playing with Maxime St-Cyr and another player that can change during the games. We have finished fifth or sixth during the last years, and we want to do better this time. We really want to grab the third place. We will then have home ice advantage.”

Édouard Michaud will miss the games because of an injury. Maxime St-Cyr is the leading scorer among the Aigles Bleus with 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points, fifth in the circuit. Vincent Deslauriers is 19th with eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points. Wilson Forest will not return to play this season because of an injury. Saint Mary’s has won its last two encounters.
