Université de Moncton to Host St. Francis Xavier in Soccer

Université de Moncton’s soccer teams will play games on Thursday as they host teams from St. Francis Xavier University in an Atlantic University Sport (AUS) game at the Stade Croix Bleue Medavie Stadium.

Both Moncton teams need to collect standings points if they wish to participate in the AUS championships at the end of the month. They need to finish top 6 to participate, with five games remaining in the regular schedule.

The Aigles Bleues (2-3-2=8 points, 7th position) host the X-Women (5-0-3=18 points, 3rd position) at 5 p.m. in a return match. In Antigonish, both teams played to a 0-0 tie verdict.

“We face a very good team, but we played well against them 10 days ago and we want to confirm our play,” stated Moncton coach Mehyar Zekaroui. “We will be in the game offensively and defensively. I have confidence in the players, and they will take advantage of scoring opportunities. The team will play the same scenario, but more efficiently. We wish to forget last Saturday’s play. Each point is important at this stage, and a win against the X-Women will surely offer us confidence in our means.”

The Aigles Bleus (2-4-1=7 points, 8th position) meet the X-Men (6-1-1=19 points, 2nd position) at 7:15 p.m. In Antigonish, the X-Men blanked the Aigles 3-0.

“The score does not reflect our play, and we want to prove that we played better,” coach Younes Bouida said. “We do respect the X-Men; they possess high calibre players. We can play with them, and if we keep our focus as we did last Saturday and everyone gives his 110 per cent, we could surprise them. We need solidarity as a group and perseverance. We will give our all in front of our home crowd. The mental aspect of the game will be very important, and we will perform well.”

Spectators are welcome to both games.
