Hockey Aigles Bleus to Host Panthers Wednesday

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (1-1-1=3 points, 5th position) will host the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (0-1-1=1 point, 7th position) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in the inaugural home game of the 2019-2020 Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey season.

The game is promising between these two rivals that met in two exhibition games. It is the first meeting in the regular season. Moncton did win 4-0 and lost 3-1 in the two exhibition games in September.

“I expect a very close game because all teams are very competitive,” stated Moncton forward Maxime St-Cyr. “The competition is very tight, and we need to work hard. I will do what I can to help the team. I do not have any personal objectives, other than perform and get better with every game. We need to perform better offensively and play more aggressively around the opposing net. We need to bring the puck to their net.”

Coach Judes Vallée is looking forward to the game and see his troops in action following Saturday’s loss. “We will face a very good team,” Vallée said. “They played well in the exhibition games. We are not the only team to have lost on Saturday. It will be interesting to see how we come back from that. Our defensive play needs to be tighter and limit the number of shots on our goal. The offensive needs to bring the puck to the opposing net and score. We have acquired assets and we need to use them.”

Gabriel Vanier and Alexis Thibaudeau will miss the game because of injuries. Étienne Montpetit will be in the nets. Aigles Bleus players of the 2019-2020 season will be introduced in a ceremony marking the 56th season of university hockey for the team prior to the game. President and Vice-Chancellor, Jacques Paul Couturier, and Vice-Presidents Edgar Robichaud and Gilles Roy will preside an official face-off.
