Soccer Aigles in Charlottetown Sunday

Both Université de Moncton soccer teams travel the Confederation Bridge on Sunday to take on the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers in Atlantic University Sport games in Charlottetown.

The Aigles Bleues (1-1-1=4 points, 6th position) will face the Panthers (0-4-0=0 points, 9th position), a team that has lost its first four starts.

“They did not have a very good season up to date, but they will try to get the first win, and we will have to be solid and not offer any chances for a win,” said Moncton coach Mehyar Zekaroui. “We need to show our dominance in the first half. I know the Panthers will try to control the ball, so we will answer with a plan to intercept the ball and counter-attack. We will have to be efficient.”

In the men’s game, the Aigles Bleus (1-1-1=4 points, 5th position) will face the Panthers (1-3-0=3 points, 8th position). Both teams have a similar file.

“This is a road game for us against a very good team,” head coach Younes Bouida said. “They blanked us 3-0 in an exhibition game, and I am sure they will go all out to win on their home turf. We will be ready with our team to defend our zone and surprise them with a few scores. We want our revenge.”

Striker Félix Robichaud believes this game will be different. “We need to work hard as a team,” Robichaud said. “Our aim is to be more productive on the offensive, an aspect we practised this week. Striking the ball harder and a good game strategy will help.”
