Sea-Hawks to Visit Aigles on Sunday

The Université de Moncton soccer teams will host the Memorial University Sea-Hawks on Sunday at the Stade Croix Bleue Medavie Stadium in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) soccer action.

The Aigles Bleues (1-1) play at 1 p.m. while the Aigles Bleus (1-1) play at 3:15 p.m. Memorial female team is 2-0 while the men are 0-2.

Aigles Bleues head coach, Mehyar Zekaroui, is hopeful the momentum gained on Sunday with a victory will carry into the Sunday game against a team that scored 11 goals and allowed only one in two last weekend games. “It is an important game for us against an opponent vying for the AUS championship,” Zekaroui said. “We have a plan in place to be competitive against this team that has been dominant. They are strong offensively, but we can find a small hole somewhere and attack. We played well on Sunday, and we are building on that. We will be solid and battle for the three points.”

Rookie Zoe Brockbank has now played two AUS games. “I have never played against Memorial, but I will play to the best of my abilities and support my teammates,” she said. “I look forward to this game. The AUS calibre if very high; I was a bit stressed in my first outing, but my confidence improved following our Sunday win against Mount Allison.”

Aigles Bleus coach, Younes Bouida, expects his squad to come out strong on Sunday. “Each game has a history and different circumstances,” stated Bouida. “Memorial will go all out to win the three points. We are expecting an aggressive team, and we will be ready. The players are aware of the importance of the game. We did recuperate from our two weekend games this week, and our game plan is based on our strengths on the field. We will also rectify a few strategies from our last weekend.”

Third-year player from Moncton, Thomas Maillet, is looking forward to this important game. “We did win our last game and that has boosted our confidence,” Maillet said. “We feel great as a team and we expect another win. We worked hard this week in practice. There is very good chemistry in our team and we will arrive well prepared. We know Memorial will be motivated for a win after their two losses. It will be up to us to play well and win.”

The public is invited to attend both games.
