The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues coach, Mehyar Zekaroui, is proud that Shediac resident Karyssa Boucher and Shediac Bridge resident Alexandra Roy will join his team for the next Atlantic University Sport women soccer season.

“I know Karyssa and Alexandra will be a big help on the field,” stated Zekaroui. “I have seen them play for a number of years and their progression is very good. I look forward to seeing both on the field with our team.”

A midfield player or striker, Boucher is a grade 12 student at the école Louis-J.-Robichaud and will study in nursing at the Moncton campus.

“I wanted to study at the Moncton campus and play soccer,” she said. “I have been playing for 12 years with Codiac Soccer AAA and Team New Brunswick. I know and have practised with some of the Moncton players. I have been playing since my youth and it keeps me busy. As a player on the field, I have good communication skills and I can pass the ball. I can be a playmaker and as a striker, I can score.”

Boucher is the second member of her family with the Aigles as her older brother Joslain is a member of the men’s soccer team. She mentioned having seen him play and she also wanted to play at the highest calibre possible.

Alexandra Roy, 18, is also a grade 12 student at the école Louis-J.-Robichaud. She measures 5 feet 6 inches and plays midfield. She has played with both Codiac AAA and Soccer New Brunswick teams. She also wore the LJR Patriotes shirt for two seasons, in grades 9 and 10. She also plays volleyball and is a track athlete.

“A number of my former coaches played with the Aigles Bleues and I also wanted to play with the team,” Roy said. “As a midfield player, I need to pass, control play and help both the defensive and offensive squads. I am very good at passing the ball to a player for a score and I run fast. I also have very good field vision.” In track, she runs the 100 m and 200 m sprints.

Roy and Boucher both have played with several Aigles Bleues players. Both wish to help the team qualify for the playoffs. They will train and play this summer to be ready for their first university season.
