The Université de Moncton men’s hockey coach, Judes Vallée, announced that two-season veteran Vincent Deslauriers will be team captain for the 2019-2020 Atlantic University Sport hockey season.

Deslauriers will have Olivier Desjardins as assistant, while Robbie Graham and Justin Guénette will continue wearing the A in their role.

“I am happy to name Vincent Deslauriers as captain for the next season,” Vallée said. “He has demonstrated leadership on and off the ice for his first two seasons. He works hard on the ice and leads by example. In his rookie season, Oliver Desjardins has also displayed his leadership skills. He will join veterans Graham and Guénette.”

“I will remain who I am, even as captain,” stated Deslauriers. “We have a very good group of players and my work in the dressing room will be lessened because of this. I will continue working hard on the ice and show by example. We have a very good energetic team, and I will serve as an assembling player. Personally, I wish to play better next season than in my first two.”

Rookie defencemen Olivier Desjardins is proud of the mark of confidence. “I am happy with the confidence coming from my peers and coaches,” he said. “I will not modify my playing style, and I accept the added responsibility. I am a positive person and a friend of all players. I will need to show leadership on the ice and in the dressing room. Our team is moving towards a championship, and I will do my best to contribute to that.”

The 2019-2020 season will begin in September. The Aigles Bleus (14-13-3=31 points) were eliminated in the quarterfinals this year and finished in fifth place in the standings.
